Kirtland Central High School senior Hanalysa Thompson won a National Athleadership Grant sponsored by the National Collegiate Scouting Association and the NFL Players Association.

Thompson received the award based on her leadership within the community, academic achievements, athletics and an essay.

"It was very exciting," she said. "I look forward to the opportunity to continue my soccer career past high school."

According to a press release from NCSA, the group will work with Thompson and her family and assist her in finding a college that best matches her academic and athletic achievements.

"Our passionate team of 300 former athletes will personally guide and educate Hanalysa throughout the entire recruiting process, giving her the tools that she needs to be successful in recruiting and in life." said Chris Krause, CEO and founder of NCSA Athletic Recruiting in the release. "Picking the right college is a life changing decision. It's important for student-athletes to recognize that the choice of a college or university is not just a four-year decision; it is a 40-year decision that will impact their professional future and personal success in life."

Thompson, a midfielder for the Lady Broncos soccer team, has helped to lead Kirtland to a 10-3 record this season.

She is optimistic about the team's success so far this year leading to a playoff a spot.

"I think our team is really strong, and I think we have a shot of not just making to the state tournament, but winning a game and at least making it to the quartersfinal," Thompson said.

"This is my fifth year and this is the strongest we've been."

Lady Bronco head coach Leonel Comacho said having Thompson in his squad has been a great asset and the team benefits from her leadership on and off the field.

"Its a great advantage. You can count on her whenever you need her," Comacho said. "It's a plus to have her on the team, and I've had the pleasure of coaching her since she was a sophomore and see her develop. She's a fine young lady."

Thompson said she has been contacted by Faulkner University in Montgomery, Ala., about playing collegiately, and she would like to play at New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands, Fresno State or Southern Utah University.
