FARMINGTON — Former San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dale Frazier is expected to plead guilty today to an assault charge in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque.

Frazier’s change-of-plea hearing was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., said Elizabeth Martinez, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzalez.

Frazier was indicted June 27, 2012 on a charge of unlawfully assaulting a man with a dangerous weapon, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The former deputy allegedly struck a Navajo man multiple times with a flashlight in Farmington on March 17, 2011, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The man was hit with a flashlight multiple times in the head, neck and body, according to the justice department.

The incident was captured on the camera in Frazier’s patrol car.

Frazier was placed on paid administrative leave on March 30, 2011.

He was fired from the office on April 22, 2011. He had been a deputy since June 2006.
