FARMINGTON — Farmington police said Sharolyn Keown, 18, was shot and killed in Farmington on Monday night.
Police responded to a report of gun shots at 11 p.m. Monday at a mobile home community. Keown was found shot outside and paramedics determined she was dead, Farmington police Lt. Taft Tracy said in a news release.
Tracy said police are interviewing witnesses and have identified a person of interest but no further information about the person was available Tuesday afternoon.
Keown was from Farmington and most recently went to school at Farmington High School, said Laurel Keown, the victim's grandmother.
Laurel Keown said Sharolyn's mother, also of Farmington, was unavailable to talk on Tuesday. Sharolyn has siblings and a father who live in Arizona. The family was from the area.
“My granddaughter was shot and killed,” Laurel said. “No. We are not good.”
Laurel Keown said her granddaughter lived with a man in Farmington. She said the family was awaiting information from police on the details of the death.
“We don't know what happened,” she said. “We're waiting to see what happens.”
