A Farmington man was arrested early Sunday morning in the stabbing of a man outside a bar in Durango, Colo.

Ronald Cummings, 26, allegedly stabbed Michael Ruiz, a 22-year-old man from Cortez, Colo., at about 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Second Avenue Sports, according to a Durango police news release.

Police said Cummings was found with a bloody, three-inch pocket knife and a baseball bat.

Witnesses told police Ruiz was leaving the Wild Horse Saloon with a group of people at closing time when they were confronted by Cummings and a fight quickly broke out. The witnesses told police they hadn't seen Cummings prior to the altercation and that he stabbed Ruiz during the fight, police said.

Ruiz was transported to Mercy Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Cummings was booked into the La Plata County Jail on a $25,000 bond. He has been charged with first-degree assault.
