BLOOMFIELD — Members of the Central Consolidated School District are organizing a benefit concert for the McCabe family, who saw their home destroyed by a fire Monday afternoon.

The concert will be held at the Brooks/Isham Performing Arts Center in Kirtland at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20. Admission to the event will be $5 at the door, with proceeds going towards the McCabe family.

Kirtland Central High School Band Director David Schwartz said the idea for the benefit was born out of a conversation with his wife Jessica Boronet, who works at the middle school.

"It was a conversation we had yesterday (Wednesday) morning and is a reality this afternoon," Schwartz said. "It's nice to see the community come together for something like this."

The lineup for the concert is still being finalized but Schwartz said the Kirtland high and middle school jazz band will be joined by the jazz band from Piedra Vista High School in Farmington with other groups from Farmington High School and Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. possibly joining them.

A silent auction will take place concurrently with the concert at the performing arts center with the auction running from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Schwartz said they are still acquiring items for the auction but some of the items will include posters, photographs and pottery from area artists along with merchandise from the school district.
