ALBUQUERQUE (AP) — Authorities say a man who was shot and killed in Albuquerque's South Valley neighborhood is the son of a New Mexico Democratic lawmaker.
KRQE-TV reports (http://bit.ly/RcEZyW) that the victim has been identified as 45-year-old Ralph Chavez, the son of state Rep. Ernest Chavez, a Democrat who has represented part of Albuquerque's South Valley since 2004.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department says Ralph Chavez was shot multiple times and died at the scene, just a street away from the representative's home.
Authorities say another man also was found with gunshot wounds at the scene and taken to the hospital. He is recovering from being shot in the hip and lower back. His name has not been released.
Rep. Chavez is up for re-election in November.
