FARMINGTON — A business appears to be the victim of a serial siphoner.

The thief or thieves have stolen fuel and damaged 12 vehicles at Guardian Motor Sports, 7201 E. Main St. It has been hit three times in the last month.

Rich Scheuble, who owns the business with his wife, Barbara, said damages have reached $1,000.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office is investigating, Sgt. Dave Hamlin said.

Hamlin said detectives uncovered a beer bottle that could have been left by a culprit. The bottle is being processed for DNA, though getting results could take months.

There is no fence around the property and the fuel is being stolen at night.

Scheuble said "anything with an engine" is being targeted.

"It's very frustrating," he said. "It takes away from our normal course of business and it basically all comes out of our pocket."

Guardian Motor Sports sells used automobiles, mobile homes and recreational vehicles.

Hamlin said fuel larceny occurs often. But most of the time the victims are energy companies whose diesel trucks are targeted at rural sites.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call detectives at 505-334-6107.
