FARMINGTON — The Vietnam Veterans Remembrance celebration will start Monday and run through Saturday, March 30. The accompanying bike run is scheduled for March 30.

Friends and relatives of Vietnam veterans have planned a 117-mile walk that starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Thoreau Chapter. Breakfast will precede the walk.

The walk will end at noon on March 30 at the Upper Fruitland Chapter.

Those walking will stop in Crownpoint, Lake Valley and other Navajo communities along the U.S. Highway 371 corridor.

A bike run will also take place starting at 9 a.m. March 30 at the Baca/Prewitt Chapter House. It is expected to end at about noon the same day near the Upper Fruitland Chapter.

To kick off the walk, the Thoreau Chapter will host events at Smith Lake Chapter Veterans Hall on Monday, March 25. Events will include the posting of the colors by the Fort Wingate High School Junior ROTC at 10 a.m. Former Miss Navajo Nation Sunny Dooley will moderate the event, and current Miss Navajo Nation Leandra Thomas will also be a special guest.
