FARMINGTON — Police are continuing to look for suspects in a stabbing near Brookside Park on Saturday night that left one man with wounds that required hospitalization.

Rogerio Vallejos, 29, was stabbed at least three times after he was in a fight with a group of young men at the basketball courts in the park near Dustin Avenue and 20th Street in Farmington, Farmington police Lt. Taft Tracy said.

Vallejos was taken by ambulance to San Juan Regional Medical Center. He was in fair condition on Monday, said Kathryn Pettijohn, a hospital spokeswoman.

Tracy said Vallejos has a stab wound on the left side of his chest and cuts on the back of his neck and chest.

Police were called to the park at about 6:40 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses at the park said a group of young men had attacked Vallejos, Tracy said.

Vallejos escaped and ran from his attackers into the parking lot south of the park where police found him.

The attackers had fled by the time police arrived.

Farmington police and the San Juan County Sheriff's Office searched for the men. The sheriff's office helicopter directed police to a group of people, the majority were teenagers, who were able to give police information on the incident but none of them were believed to be directly involved, Tracy said.

Though several suspects were believed to have been involved in the attack, a Farmington Police news release described the suspect as a short, bald man with a tattoo on his face.
