FARMINGTON — Farmington police on Saturday are hosting an orientation to recruit women police officers.

The event is from 9 a.m. to noon at Safety City, 428 County Road 6480, Kirtland.

Nate Lacey, a training officer for Farmington police, said the meeting will describe law enforcement careers and the department's hiring process.

There is also a session for women to privately ask current female officers questions and practice the fitness exam that police officer candidates must pass, Lacey said.

"Our goal is to expand our hiring pool with people from all backgrounds," Lacey said.

The event is free and open to the public.

Of the 113 certified officers in the Farmington Police Department, seven are women, Lacey said. Two other women are training to become officers.
