ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—An alleged sexual assault at a fraternity house has prompted the University of New Mexico to direct the fraternity to suspend most chapter activities pending an inquiry.

A letter sent by a university Dean of Students Office official accuses the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity of student code of conduct violations due to the alleged April 2 sexual assault.

The letter says the fraternity must suspend all chapter activities except for chapter meetings and normal house activities while the suspension is in effect.

The Albuquerque Journal ( reports that a university police report says detectives have conducted interviews concerning the alleged assault and that a suspect has been identified.

The report says evidence has been sent to the State Crime Lab for examination.
