City Manager Robert Garza tells the Las Cruces Sun-News (http://bit.ly/11w4mfL) that one of the major components of the city's strategic plan is to be the employer of choice. He says the focus is on ensuring Las Cruces has competitive wages and attractive benefits.
More than 1,100 city workers who aren't represented by a union received an across-the-board 2 percent raise this year. Pay adjustments and benefits were also provided for those represented by police, fire and blue-collar unions.
For the current budget year, Las Cruces is spending more than $53 million on personnel. That's more than 65 percent of the city's general fund budget.
