Leigh Irvin's article on the local challenges of implementing the Affordable Care Act (Monday, Feb. 11) is very well written, and the first I've seen that brings these issues home. I like the mix of Rick Wallace's and Joe Pope's views with just the right amount of detail on the law itself. This short article touches a surprising number of other aspects from the law's shortcomings to the excessive costs of medical care and the serious call for individuals to take responsibility for their own health.

Irvin's clear presentation makes it easy for readers to realize that even with its problems, the Act is a sorely needed step to a better system and a healthier community. I hope to see more of her writing.
