(Regarding the Feb. 18 Daily Times story on the San Juan County) "commission tables Shiprock Chapter request for San Juan County to serve as the chapter's fiscal agent for $1 million the chapter hoped to receive in state funds to build a fire and communication center in Shiprock."

The fire and communication center is critical to several communities surrounding Shiprock area. The commission needs to know we pay taxes in San Juan County.

You can't deny us county services or let us pay for any administrative fee on future requests to be our fiscal agent.

The commission justification is because the loss of taxes from the purchase of Navajo Mine by the Nation. To inform the commission, Shiprock Chapter was against the purchase of the mine. The Commission has no choice because San Juan County fire fighters, will be using the proposed building.
