FARMINGTON — Every year Artifacts Gallery, located in downtown Farmington, has a series of themed shows that run for two months. The first themed show this year is opening on Friday with a reception from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The show's theme is "Between a Rock and a Hard Place." Tara Churchhill said the theme was selected through a process of brainstorming and then the artists were challenged to submit art they felt fit with the theme.

Churchhill said the gallery has recieved various interpretations using various mediums. For example, some people brought in paintings while others brought in rocks. The gallery even had hand-dyed silk scarves submitted.

All area artists are able to submit art for the shows, Churchhill said. Before being displayed, the art has to be deemed gallery quality, but Churchhill said art is rarely turned down.

Many of the artists featured in the show will be present at the reception and Churchhill said the reception will provide a fun way for people to come support the artist and to see the quality of art in the Four Corners area.
