Bloomfield and Shiprock played Thursday night as District 1-3A rivals once again.
The Shiprock Lady Chiefs (1-0 District 1-3A) once again covered a lot of floor in a five-set win in Bloomfield, beating the Lady Bobcats 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 24-26and 15-13.
“We made some mental lapses again and it was a bummer when we didn’t win the third or fourth games,” said Shiprock head coach Rae Collins. “But I am glad we were able to find a way to win.”
Trinity Mayo led Bloomfield with 11 kills in the loss while Haili Bekes had 30 assists.
Bloomfield head coach Tami Bekes said she knows her team is coming together.
“We got a glimpse of what we are capable of,” Bekes said. “We are getting that ‘never say die’ attitude, but we need to be able to serve and pass without errors if we want to win. That is fixable, and we are looking forward to trying to get a district win in Wingate next weekend.”
Lady Eagles beat Navajo Pine in 3
Navajo Prep collected another win Thursday, beating rival Navajo Pine in three sets.
The Lady Eagles beat Navajo Pine 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23 by covering a lot of ground defensively.
Jasmine Coleman had 16 digs in the match to go with six kills. Danielle Coleman and Desmarie Hanley each added five kills.
Keona Leano had eight assists and Lynn Begay had another seven.
