Shiprock began a three-day stretch of games with a strong win Thursday night in Arizona.
Taylor Henderson scored 31 points as the Lady Chieftains (15-2) took down Monument Valley 73-52.
“Taylor came around on her shooting. It was a great thing to see,” said Shiprock head coach Larenson Henderson.
Shiprock pressured Monument Valley the entire 32 minutes, forcing several turnovers that led to fast break points.
“We came out on top because our bench was able to come out and provide the same pressure the starters did,” Larenson Henderson said. “Our girls have intensity one through 12 and they continue to play strong.”
The Lady Chieftains led by 15 going into the fourth quarter and only pulled away from there.
Geovonia Harry scored 15 while Shania Harry added another 11 in the win.
Shiprock begins District 1-3A play at home tonight in the Chieftain Pit, where the Lady Chiefs are 6-0 this season.
“I like this three game schedule for us because the games are challenging for us. Each game we play helps us gain confidence,” Larenson Henderson said. “Saturday's Tuba City, Ariz., game is at 11 a.m., so it will be a test for us. This stretch will set the tone for us.”
