FARMINGTON — Many of San Juan County's top senior basketball players will show off their talents after All-Star selections.

Ten athletes will participate in the 33rd annual Arizona vs. New Mexico All-Star games today and Saturday at Miyamura High School in Gallup.

Six girls and four boys will play in the games, representing New Mexico.

Shiprock's Taylor Henderson, Ashley John and Courtney Steele, Piedra Vista's Kaleigh Graham, Kirtland Central's Keeshawna Ockerman and Navajo Prep's Muriel Waukazoo will play for the New Mexico girls' teams under Shiprock head coach Larenson Henderson and the Lady Chieftains staff.

Graham said it will be interesting to see how players from the area come together to form a single team.

"We finally get to put all the talent from this area on one team and show what we are all about," she said via Twitter.

Shiprock's Justin Begay and Hiram Gleason and Kirtland Central's Christian Mackey and Reese Foutz were chosen to represent the boys team, playing for Shiprock head coach Chester H. Atcitty Jr. and his staff.

"I think it's a wonderful opportunity, and it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience," Atcitty said. "My goal is just to change it up and get them to play with kids they aren't used to playing with. These kids have a lot of talent and experience."

A girls and boys game will be played each day of the event, giving a chance for all 15 players to get playing time.

Along with the games, a 3-point shooting competition and a dunk contest is also scheduled.

Today's girls game will take place at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the games will be played at 1 and 3 p.m.

The New Mexico High School Coaches Association also announced rosters for the North/South All-Star game this summer.

Graham will represent the girls 4A/5A North All-Stars on June 6.

"Being selected to play in both All-Star games was one of my goals," she said. "It goes to show that hard work does pay off."

The girls 1A/1B All-Star game will also be on June 6, and Shiprock Northwest's Jaslyn Begay will represent the North team.

On June 7, the 2A/3A boys and girls games will take place.

Henderson, John and Steele will join Bloomfield's Shaelyn White on the girls team, and Gleason will play on the boys side.

The 4A/5A and 1A/1B boys games will be July 31.

Mackey was selected to play for the North in the 4A/5A boys game, while Shiprock Northwest's Andrew Wauneka will be on the 1A/1B North team.

All North/South All-Star games are scheduled to take place at West Mesa High School in Albuquerque.
