AZTEC — A local chapter of national nonprofit organization CAST for Kids will hold its annual boating and fishing day at Navajo Lake today.

CAST stands for Catch A Special Thrill. It is an all-volunteer program.

The event offers a day at the lake for special needs and underprivileged children from San Juan County.

"This is our 15th year at Navajo Lake," said CAST committee member Kellie Campbell. "This event represents the only time these kids will get outdoors in a boat and experience reeling in a fish, something totally different and exciting for them. They're hooked for life."

The children will board a wide range of boats, from pontoon to bass boats, in search of crappie fish to reel in.

The children are given a memory plaque with a picture of them and their volunteer boat caption to take home as a keepsake.

Children can also stay on dry land and fish from the dock.
