FARMINGTON — A Bloomfield man was arrested Sunday night for allegedly shooting at another man at the Sonic in Bloomfield after the two men were nearly involved in a car crash as they were leaving the fast-food business, police said.

Billy Johnson, 33, was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a violent felony, shooting at or from a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence. The first charge is a third-degree felony, and the latter two are fourth-degree felonies.

Police believe that Johnson fled after the shooting in a gold Chevrolet Avalanche. Bloomfield police tracked him to a home on North Jennings Street in Bloomfield. Police ordered him out of his home, and Johnson emerged after about 20 minutes, according to court documents.

Johnson was interviewed by Bloomfield investigators at the police department late Sunday night. He said he didn't own a handgun and wasn't at Sonic on Sunday, according to court documents.

Police obtained a search warrant for Johnson's home and vehicle and found shell casings and ammunition in the vehicle and a handgun in Johnson's bathroom.
