FARMINGTON New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and Jeb Bush, Florida's former governor, will meet for a fundraising event Tuesday afternoon in Farmington.

The San Juan Country Club, located at 5775 Country Club Drive, will host the event.

VIP reception begins at 6 p.m., and a $3,000 entry fee includes two VIP passes, two general reception passes and one photo. General reception passes cost $100.

Earnings will fund Martinez's re-election campaign, said Chris Sanchez, her re-election campaign spokesman.

"The event will help ensure the Governor has the resources necessary to communicate her record of accomplishment in New Mexico and vision for the future," he wrote in an email.

He declined to provide further information, and it is unclear why Bush is attending the fundraiser.

University of Virginia Center for Politics announced Thursday that it considers Jeb Bush the top Republican candidate for the 2016 presidential election. He has not announced publicly whether he intends to run, however.

City Councilor Gayla McCulloch, who with her husband is helping host the event, said many San Juan County residents voted to elect former President George W. Bush. She is not certain why the former president's brother is attending Martinez's fundraiser, but many county residents would likely support him if he runs for president, she said.

Also hosting Martinez's fundraiser are: Greg and Susan Merrion, Kevin and Betsy McCord, Geoff McMahon, Butch and Sheila Mathews, Danny and Margie Seip, Bob and Julie Kysar, Greg and Melissa Vick, Tucker and Karen Bayless, and Jack and Terri Fortner.

Butch Mathews, president of M & R Trucking Inc., is organizing the event, but he was unavailable for comment by deadline on Friday.

Martinez, Bush and Hanna Skandera, the New Mexico Public Education Department secretary-designate, will also speak 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Shiprock's Nizhoni Elementary School.
