FARMINGTON — A town hall meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Farmington Civic Center will focus on safeguarding children with autism.

The free event is put on by the Farmington Police Department, Four Corners Families with Autism and the Farmington Municipal School District.

Presenters from law enforcement, behavioral health and the school district's special education program will discuss familiarizing autistic children with first responders, steps to take when a child becomes endangered and tips for teaching children with special needs how to communicate with first responders.

Anyone with a child with autism or other special needs is encouraged to attend the event. Child care will be available for people attending.
