FARMINGTON — A 34-year-old Farmington man is accused of hitting five cars while drunken driving on Monday, according to a press release from the Farmington Police Department.
Police say Garrick Lee hit vehicles near Auburn Avenue and Ross Street, Allen Avenue and Main Street, Broadway and Locke avenues and 100 S. Locke Avenue.
The incident began shortly after 12:40 p.m. Monday when a black Chevrolet Impala driving southbound on Behrend Avenue at a high rate of speed hit a parked vehicle near Auburn Avenue and Ross Street.
Officers from the Farmington Police Department and New Mexico State Police and San Juan County Sheriff's Office deputies began to search for the vehicle. Police dispatch received numerous calls about the same car hitting more vehicles and fleeing, according to the press release.
A witness who reported the Impala speeding southbound on Auburn Avenue kept the car in sight until it left the road and crashed near Murray Drive and Auburn Avenue.
After that, Lee allegedly left the car and began walking westbound on Murray Drive. He was detained by law enforcement officials.
Lee was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while his license was suspended or revoked, violating an open container law and failing to notify law enforcement or owners after hitting the unattended vehicles.
