FARMINGTON — The Aztec girls' soccer team took a break from the district schedule with a tough game against 3A/A No. 1 Hope Christian.

Jessica Kresl scored twice for the Lady Tigers (15-1), including the game-winning goal in overtime to give Aztec a 2-1 victory on Saturday in Albuquerque.

"It was good for our team to play a solid quality team and get a good win," said Aztec head coach Stephen Parks. "It was tough, and we came out on top."

Kresl scored the opening goal of the contest with about 20 minutes left to play in regulation, but the Lady Huskies (12-3) equalized just five minutes later to force overtime.

Kresl earned her team the victory when she scored for a second time seven minutes into overtime.

The Lady Tigers will resume their district schedule on Tuesday with a game against Kirtland Central.

Parks is expecting his team to be ready as they continue to push for a district tile.

"Anything can happen. Any team can come out with a victory on any night," Parks said.

Lady Bobcats' head coach Kate Dunlap said she has noticed improved teamwork from her team during the three-game winning streak.

"I really want us to keep talking and passing," Dunlap said. "It was really nice. We're really hoping to continue to roll."

Bloomfield 1, Moreno Valley 0

The Bobcats defeated Moreno Valley for the second time in two days with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

"It's tough to play the same team two days in a row. They kind of figure you out," said Bloomfield head coach Jarly Lopez. "We were lacking energy today."

Edgar Fonseca scored the lone goal for the Bobcats (9-5, 7-0 District 1-3A/A) with a second half penalty kick.

Bloomfield also beat Moreno Valley (2-9, 2-4) 4-0 on Friday.

Lopez is hoping his team stays focused as they continue the district schedule with Pojoaque Valley on Friday.

"It'd be great if we went undefeated and took care of business," he said. "We have to take it one game at a time. Hopefully, we'll keep it going."

Hope Christian 3, Farmington 1

For the first time this year, Farmington dropped a match to a school that isn't Piedra Vista, falling in four sets to 3A No. 1 Hope Christian.

The Lady Huskies (13-2) came out and won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-18, before FHS (10-3) battled back to win a close third set 27-25.

"The first game, we had to learn who they were," said FHS head coach Dan Hickman. "They run a fast game. This is probably the fastest team we've seen. I see them as the 3A champs. They're just good."

Hope Christian finished out the match in the fourth, winning 25-23.

"My team played hard and didn't quit, but today, Hope was the better team," Hickman said.

Sarah Long led the Lady Scorpions with 13 kills, while Lydia Byrom added 11.

Ashley Schultz had 26 assists for FHS.

The Lady Scorps will begin district play on Tuesday with a match against Aztec.
