FARMINGTON — The Piedra Vista girls basketball team finished the regular season with a dramatic win against rival Farmington High.

PV's Rytisha Brown hit a shot with 10 seconds left to give the Lady Panthers a 54-53 victory on Saturday night at the Jerry A. Conner Fieldhouse in Farmington.

Brown finished with a game-high 16 points for the Lady Panthers (18-8, 6-0 District 1-4A).

FHS (13-13, 3-3) had a chance to tie the game, but missed a free-throw attempt with three seconds left in the game.

PV head coach Joe Reed said he was impressed with strides the Lady Scorps' have made throughout the season.

"That's the best I've seen Farmington play all year," he said.

FHS head coach Danny Secrest said it was great for his team to be involved in the emotional contest with PV.

"It was a fantastic atmosphere and I thought it was good for our girls to step up to the challenge," Secrest said.

Tanisha Beetso led FHS with 15 points and Amber Herbert added 14 in the loss.

Both teams will play again this week during the District 1-4A tournament.

Farmington will host the Kirtland Central and Aztec winner on Thursday, while Piedra Vista will host the championship game on Saturday.

In other games, Shiprock (25-0, 6-0 District 1-3A) completed their perfect regular season with a road victory at Wingate (11-15, 2-4) 82-46.

Shiprock will host the District 1-3A championship on Friday.

Aztec (5-17, 1-5 District 1-4A) picked up its first district win of the season with a 55-54 victory at home against Kirtland Central (7-18, 2-4).

The two teams will play again in the first round of the District 1-4A tournament on Tuesday in Kirtland.

Bloomfield (4-22, 0-6 District 1-3A) opened a 20-7 lead on Thoreau (16-8, 4-2) before losing to the Hawks 62-46.

Jasmine Sappington finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds in the loss for the Lady Bobcats.

Bloomfield will travel to Wingate for the first round of the District 1-3A tournament today.
