FARMINGTON — The Farmington High tennis teams had a relatively easy time in Taos over the weekend, coming away with four victories.

The boys and girls squads each defeated Española Valley, Taos, Los Alamos and Santa Fe Prep at the event.

Both coaches took the time to get some of their younger players a few varsity matches at the event and liked the growth they saw.

"We were able to play nine girls and work on some things that will be needed for the district tournament," FHS girls head coach Pat McGrath said in an email. "The girls worked on developing better serves and they are starting to get more aggressive with their doubles play. We have been playing very defensively in our doubles and that doesn't work with good teams."

The Lady Scorps dropped only three of their 36 matches to their four opponents as they defeated both Española Valley and Taos 9-0, Santa Fe Prep 8-1 and Los Alamos 7-2.

The boys team was equally as successful, sweeping the nine matches against Española Valley and Taos, while losing one match to Los Alamos and two to Santa Fe Prep.

"It was a beautiful weekend in Taos for tennis and the team enjoyed it to the utmost," FHS boys head coach Larry Larson said in an email.

The two teams will continue the season on Friday against Santa Fe Prep, then the girls will play in the Los Alamos Invite while the boys play at the Española Valley Invite on Saturday.
