FARMINGTON — The Farmington High softball team lost a pair of games against 5A competition.

The Lady Scorpions were defeated by Valley 10-6 and Albuquerque High 5-0 on Saturday in Albuquerque.

"Every pitch, we've got to be focused on both sides of the plate," FHS head coach Johnny Curry said.

In the game against Valley, Curry said his defense struggled, leading to the 10 Lady Viking runs.

Madalyn Zastrow and Erika Bradley each had three hits for FHS in the Valley loss.

In the second game, Curry said the defense played better, but FHS (8-11) couldn't string together any offense.

Jordan Curry pitched both games and took the losses for the Lady Scorps.

FHS will play at Bloomfield on Friday.

"They're always tough and play hard," Johnny Curry said.

Piedra Vista loses final two in Anaheim

The Lady Panthers (9-8) closed out the Michelle Carew Classic with a pair of losses on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif., bringing their record to 1-4 for the tournament.

PV fell to Oxnard, Calif., 9-7 in eight innings, and then dropped its final game of the tournament to Bullard High School of Fresno, Calif., 8-0.

Head coach Kevin Werth said inconsistent play plagued his team throughout the tournament.

"We looked real good at times and real bad at times," Werth said. "Like I said, if we can find consistency at the good stuff, we'll be OK, but we've got to find a way to get there. Coming out here is invaluable experience that we'll use to hopefully propel us into district and state."

PV will play again Friday with games against Cibola and La Cueva in Albuquerque.
