FARMINGTON — The New Mexico All-Stars teams each defeated Arizona to close out the 33rd annual New Mexico vs. Arizona All-Star games.

The girls team won easily 73-57, while the boys picked up a 98-95 victory in overtime on Saturday at Miyamura High School in Gallup.

Girls coach Larenson Henderson said the team's defensive strategy was better than in Thursday's 68-66 loss.

"We really clamped down on the 3-point shooting," Henderson said.

Shiprock's Taylor Henderson had 12 points, and Courtney Steele added seven points.

Piedra Vista's Kaleigh Graham played in the second half, after competing at the Farmington High track meet. Coach Henderson said her rebounding was "massive" for the team.

"The girls were really strong. I'm proud of the New Mexico team," Henderson said. "They all worked great together."

The New Mexico boys won an overtime thriller.

Shiprock's Hiram Gleason led the way with 21 points in the victory, while teammate Justin Begay had 10 points.

Kirtland Central's Christian Mackey finished with 14 points.
